Anthropologist and bodybuilder (born 1957 in Mariánské Lázně). In 1981 he graduated from the Department of Culture Theory of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague, 2015 Associate Professor of Cultural Studies.

Since 1982 he has been working at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague and since 2016 also at the University of International and Public Relations, Prague. In 2011–2013, as Head of the Department of Cultural Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, he contributed to the development of an integral anthropological approach to the study of man, society and culture. As a co-investigator of scientific grants, he has carried out a series of long-term empirical field research on local urban culture. He is the author of many scientific studies and scientific monographs devoted to the history of anthropological thought. His book History of Anthropology was awarded the Rector’s Prize of Charles University as the best publication in the field of social sciences for the year 2004. Together with the Czech anthropologist Barbora Půtová he realized an international research project dedicated to finding the roots of human creativity and genesis of artistic imagination. The results of this project were published together with studies of the world’s leading paleoanthropologists and archaeologists in the book The Genesis of Creativity and the Origin of the Human Mind (2015). At the Institute of Ethnology, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, he is involved as a co-researcher in the research grant Craft Speech, 2017-2022, the NAKI program.

At present, his research, publishing and teaching activities focus on both anthropological research of culture and the application of socio-cultural anthropology to the issues of international relations, intercultural communication and cultural diplomacy. In 2016–2019 he held the position of Rector of the College of International and Public Relations, Prague. Now, in the position of emeritus rector, he continuously provides lectures on cultural anthropology, cultural ecology and psychological anthropology. At the same time, as a co-investigator, he coordinates the implementation and outputs of the scientific grant Transformation of the paradigm of organization management in the context of industry 4.0, 2019–2021 (in cooperation with Charles University in Bratislava). He received the Vojtěch Suk Prize for his long-term contribution to the development of anthropology at Masaryk University in Brno.
